Podium Podcasting Launch

Stirling Management Centre, 16th May 2007

With special guest speaker – Ewan McIntosh

To celebrate the launch of its new podcasting application Podium, Softease would like to invite Scottish Council Education Advisors to a ‘free-of-charge’, senior management, special morning event on the 16th May 2007 at the Stirling Management Centre, Stirling.

We are delighted to be joined on this occasion by Ewan McIntosh, an East Lothian Teacher and Social Media Specialist, who will share his considerable experience of podcasting and other social software in a keynote speech entitled ‘Communication and Creativity in the Classroom’.

Independent Educational consultant Doug Dickinson will then give a demonstration of Podium and discuss the many educational benefits of introducing podcasting into the classroom.

A PC-based podcasting application, Podium allows users to create, edit and publish podcasts all from the same, simple interface. One of the many advantages to introducing Podium into lessons is its accessibility by all ages and abilities and its demonstrated advantages in improving speaking and listening skills.

Toward the end of the session, attendees will be invited to ask any questions and air their views and experiences of incorporating new technologies for education. All attendees will also receive a FREE single user version of Podium to take away.

We hope you will be able to join us and share our enthusiasm for a technology which we believe is set to revolutionise teaching and learning for all.

If you have any queries about this event or would like further information about Podium, please email podiumlaunch@softease.com.

  • 10:10 – Keynote – Ewan McIntosh
Communication and Creativity in the Classroom – How do your students live inside school? How do your students live outside school? Why does a kid who spends 50 hours mastering a computer game seem unable to concentrate for 12 minutes in my class? Why do kids seem to have no trouble speaking to each other but never seem able to talk about the subject in hand? Why does a kid who spends 200 minutes a day on the net not enjoy interactive work in the classroom? By combining the challenge of student-led collaboration and the use of tools students have mastered in their ‘real’ lives, motivation is so high you can’t stop the students learning. See how online social networking tools and software which allows multimedia work do be done in a few clicks are making learning come alive in Scotland and beyond, and how truly collaborative tasks with new technology are going to help make connections in the learning of the future.
